The Königsbrücker Madonna

At the beginning the idea stood to make for the oldest German Weihnachtsmarkt, the Dresdener Striezelmarkt, somewhat completely special of clay/tone. The artistic line of the agency kind graduation addressed Mr. Uwe Stephan (Königsbrücker hobby painter), again somewhat completely unusual for presentation at the 1. To manufacture Advent. (In the previous year Mr. Stephan had already cooperated in the Weihnachtskrippe from Pulsnitzer pepper cake.) with his Madonna idea Mr. Stephan came into the pottery Frommhold, king-bridges, and had already first conceptions for the implementation of the work of art.

That actually was in March 2005 and still sufficient time for the planning and conversion of the idea. In principle it had to be ensured that production in the pottery Frommhold could regularly keep running; the idea at this place in addition, best to carry out was. At the end of September gave it however still no model. The large support came then from the Keramiker Mr. Karsten Piller, king-bridges, and the Keramiker Steffen core, Elstra. Both had already made practical experiences in this ceramic area in the apron in a workshop of the Oberlausitz. So slowly the Madonna under participation of the four men mentioned in shape assumed. One large ceramic mural (240 cm x 190 cm) and approx. 230 kg heavily were created from 152 individual parts and burned with 1150° Celsius in the furnace of the pottery Frommhold. The fire succeeded, to all was the easement to be regarded and actually could nothing more inclined go; but where with the picture after the conception on the Striezelmarkt at the 1. Advent?

Suddenly ward the thought born to bring this picture after Piacenza (90 km south of Milan) to the place, at which August III. of Saxonia had bought the fig. 1754 from a monastery become impoverished. The local Italian was assigned to make in this place the monastery and call their current heads. What would they say to so a donation? The present Pater Don Guiseppe was pleased much about this gesture from Saxonia and invited us Töpfer, Keramiker and painters after Piacenza. There became to 2. Advent under large sympathy of the municipality and local city parliamentarian the picture geweiht. The Königsbrücker Madonna always found its place now in the church San Sisto in Piacenza beside the holy pc. Barbara.
